Welcome to Roseway Stud

Breeders of quality Warmblood Sports and Dressage horses
Roseway Stud is a family business, based in St Day, Cornwall owned and run by James Luker and his partner Michelle Jarman.

The stud currently has warm blood stallion Zig Zag standing at stud. Suddenly and very sadly, we lost our beloved stallion Zabantos In July.

Zig-Zag is a 16.2hh bay Dutch Warmblood by prolific show jumping stallion Concorde out of Namira De Haar. This very talented and beautiful stallion has already proven himself to have exceptional scope and ability.  He has a wonderful temperament, is regularly ridden and schooled and is showing considerable talent over jumps.

RIP Zabantos  7th June 2004 to 24th July 2011

It is with great sadness to say we have had to say goodbye to our beloved Zabantos who was with us for such a short time. After competing at Falmouth Horse Show on July 23rd, he suddenly developed colic the following day (Sunday) and sadly did not pull through surgery.

ZABANTOS was a lovely strong, bold stallion with good confirmation and very expressive movement. He caught our eye as a beautiful 3-year old when we first saw him in Holland in 2007. He had exceptional bloodlines such as Julio Mariner, Investment, Voltaire, Grace-Kelly, Nimmerdor. His grand sire is the great BALOUBET DU ROUET who can undoubtedly be rated as one of the best show jumpers at the turn of the millennium.

In his tragically short life and having enjoyed a successful show jumping season this year, including qualifying for the Newcomers' Final at HOYS he was proving true to his forebears showing the scope and ability to go a long way in his show jumping career. He was extremely bold and brave and this legacy he has already passed on to his offspring but he was also kind and generous and he leaves such a gap in our lives.

A shining star that will never fade, never age, he stepped into our lives on a whisper and nestled quietly within our hearts where he will remain forever.

"We'll never forget Zabantos but are now looking to the future and focussing on 'Ziggy's' preparation for HOYS"

James & Michelle         Zabantos

When God created the horse,
he said to the magnificent creature:

I have made thee as no other.

All the treasures of the earth shall lie between thy eyes.
Thou shalt cast thy enemies between thy hooves,
But thou shalt carry my friends upon thy back. Thy saddle shall be the seat of prayers to me.

And thou fly without any wings, and conquer without any sword.

Zig Zag at the Hand

Roseway Stud at Horse of the Year Show 2011

Our brilliant lad Zig Zag has enjoyed a stunning show jumping season this year, qualifying for 3 HOYS finals, starting with a strong win at Devon County Show in May for the Grade C Show Jumping Final.

The June Delight show at The Hand Equestrian Centre hosted a Horse & Hound Foxhunter second round on Saturday June 18th 2011 with 48 starters all aiming to take home one of the two Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) qualification tickets that were up for grabs.

Sammie Jo Coffin took the top spot riding Zig Zag, qualifying him for HOYS for the second time!

Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre in Hampshire hosted an EquestrianClearance.com Newcomer second round 23rd/24th July with 62 starters aiming for the top two spots to gain Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) qualification. The first 5 also qualified for the Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival which offers another chance at HOYS qualification.

After 3 hotly contested rounds, Surrey based Pippa Funnel riding Billy Studs 6-year old Billy Balou won in a time of 42.86 seconds. Sammie Jo Coffin rode  Zig Zag to second place, jumping round in 42.81 seconds lowering just one pole for four faults, qualifying him for HOYS for the third time!

In Memory of Zabantos

A fantastic weekend at the Dorset County Show Ground on Sunday June 12 2011 saw Zabantos join his stable mate Zig Zag as he qualified for this year's Horse Of The Year Show by winning the Senior Newcomers class at the National Show Jumping Qualifiers.

Sadly and very suddenly we lost Zabantos to colic in July and Zig Zag will wear his bridle with pride in the Senior Newcomers Final

“Many thanks Sammie Jo - you are amazing. It is a dream come true to have had both boys qualify for HOYS this year"
